Cardiologist
Cardiologists specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases or conditions that affect the cardiovascular system (the heart and blood vessels). A diagnosis of heart or vascular conditions often begin with your primary care doctor, who then refers you to a cardiologist. All cardiologists are clinical cardiologists, focussing on medical management (the use of medicine), and the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Some clinical cardiologists may also specialise in paediatric cardiology, which means that they diagnose and treat heart problems in children as well.
A cardiologist will evaluate your symptoms and medical history, before recommending tests for a definite diagnosis. Once the cardiologist receives the test results, he or she will decide if your condition can be managed under his or her care, using medicines or other available treatments.
